Spain’s scenic landscapes and cultural heritage make it the top destination for south korean travellers in 2025

Spain has taken the first position in the 2025 Korean Overseas Travel Satisfaction Survey, which was carried out by Consumer Insight, a famous research agency in South Korea. Spain, with an incredible score of 808 out of 1000, has gone past Switzerland, which had been at the top for four years in a row. This landmark marks Spain’s first time as the top scorer, and it is the first time any country has ever been given more than 800 in the survey satisfaction score.

The result highlights the growing appeal of Spain among South Korean travellers. Combining rich culture, exceptional gastronomy, stunning landscapes, and renowned hospitality, Spain’s offerings resonate deeply with South Korean tourists.

A Growing Interest in Spain Among South Korean Tourists

In 2024, Spain welcomed 391,785 South Korean tourists, generating a total expenditure of 1.214 billion euros, with an average spend of 3,098 euros per traveller. The South Korean visitors are particularly drawn to Spain’s cultural heritage, vibrant cuisine, and beautiful natural landscapes, which are central to the country’s tourism appeal. The survey’s findings demonstrate that Spain has managed to attract a high-spending tourist demographic, solidifying its reputation as a top international destination.

Spain’s climb to the top spot can also be attributed to enhanced air connectivity. Direct flights from South Korea to major Spanish cities like Madrid and Barcelona have facilitated easier access to the country. Notably, direct flights between Seoul–Madrid (operated by Korean Air) and Seoul–Barcelona (offered by Asiana Airlines and T’way) have contributed to a seamless travel experience. Additionally, the introduction of seasonal charter flights to Málaga in late 2025 further strengthens Spain’s position as a convenient and attractive destination for South Korean tourists.

Cultural and Natural Attractions Continue to Drive Tourism Growth

In addition to Spain’s strong cultural identity, the appeal of its landscapes and relaxed pace of life have contributed significantly to the rise in South Korean tourist arrivals. Many visitors are increasingly interested in Spain’s cultural offerings, including its historical sites, art, and iconic events such as the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. South Korea has emerged as one of the key international markets for this traditional route, highlighting a growing trend towards cultural and slow travel experiences.

Spain’s travel satisfaction score reflects its success in catering to South Korean tourists’ preferences for authentic, enriching travel experiences. Spain’s focus on sustainable tourism and the development of diverse experiences, such as eco-tourism and wellness tourism, aligns perfectly with the global trend of responsible travel, which continues to resonate with the South Korean market.

Spain’s Ongoing Commitment to the South Korean Market

This achievement underscores Spain’s ongoing commitment to expanding its tourism sector in South Korea. The Spanish government and Turespaña, the Spanish Tourism Board, have reinforced their dedication to promoting Spain as a top travel destination in Asia. With South Korea being one of the most lucrative and rapidly growing markets for tourism, Spain plans to continue strengthening its presence through tailored marketing efforts, local collaborations, and partnerships with South Korean tour operators.

The Spanish tourism strategy aligns with Spain Tourism 2030, which focuses on sustainable tourism, increased accessibility, and enriching travel experiences. With increasing numbers of South Korean visitors choosing Spain for their holidays, the country is likely to continue its upward trajectory in terms of international tourism rankings.

Spain’s Leadership in South Korean Tourism

Spain’s rise to the top of the 2025 Korean Overseas Travel Satisfaction Survey solidifies its position as the preferred European destination for South Korean travellers. With its strong cultural appeal, high-quality hospitality, and sustainable tourism practices, Spain offers a comprehensive and enriching travel experience that resonates deeply with South Korean tourists. Looking ahead, Spain’s tourism authorities remain committed to enhancing travel opportunities and promoting the country’s unique offerings, ensuring that the destination continues to captivate South Korean visitors for years to come.
