Lucy and Tony, well known as the owners of The Bed Centre Calpe, also founded Make A Smile, a charity created in 2008.
A local initiative in Calpe is once again calling on residents across the Costa Blanca to help brighten Christmas for children living in care.
Lucy and Tony, well known as the owners of The Bed Centre Calpe, also founded Make A Smile, a charity created in 2008 during the financial crisis to support local care homes. What began as a small neighbourhood effort has now become a year-round lifeline for around 130 children in care across the region.
Each year the organisation launches its Christmas Bag Appeal, inviting people to fill a bag with new items such as pyjamas, toiletries, school supplies and small treats. In addition, vouchers and donations ensure that every child receives a Christmas gift of their own choosing.
How to take part
Residents are asked to fill a bag with new items including:
pyjamas, socks or underwear
toiletries such as shower gel
colouring books or school supplies
small, wrapped treats
Bags can be dropped off at any of the following collection points from November 10 to January 3:
The Bed Centre (Calpe)
Amigos de Make A Smile (Teulada)
SR Print (Ondara)
Café Cortados (Jávea)
For those preferring to donate gift vouchers, Amazon “E-Cheque Regalo” can be purchased at amazon.es and emailed to info@makeasmile.es Carrefour vouchers can also be delivered to any of the collection points.
Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution can request PayPal or bank transfer details via the same email address. Lucy and Tony emphasise that every euro truly makes a difference.
“Thanks to the generosity of local residents, each child not only gets a Christmas bag filled with essentials and treats — they also get the joy of choosing a gift for themselves,” said Lucy. “Together, we can make Christmas brighter for children who need it most.”
