The Costa Gaels enjoyed a memorable day of football at the Malaga Tournament earlier this month, with both men’s and women’s teams delivering standout performances.

The men’s team began their campaign with a convincing win over Éire Óg Sevilla, dominating through disciplined defence, swift transitions, and clinical finishing. Their second match against Celta Malaga ended in a hard-fought draw, reflecting the resilience that has become a hallmark of the squad. They closed the day with a strong victory over Gibraltar Gaels, securing their place among the region’s top sides.

The women’s team were equally impressive. They opened with a win over Gibraltar Gaels, followed by a comfortable victory against Éire Óg Sevilla. The day ended in style with a brilliant win over Celta Malaga, featuring sharp attacking play, solid defence, and seamless teamwork. Multiple players scored, while the squad’s fitness and composure stood out throughout the matches.

Founded in 2001, Costa Gaels Gaelic Football Club has grown into one of the leading Irish sports clubs on the Costa del Sol. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling, offering training for adults and children at Marbella Rugby Club. Senior teams train twice a week and compete in the Andalucian, Iberian and European leagues, while a kids’ club runs weekly sessions combining fun games with football and hurling skills.

The Malaga Tournament highlighted the ongoing growth of Gaelic games in the region. Both teams represented the club with pride, skill, and passion, demonstrating the strength of the Costa Gaels community both on and off the pitch.

Club members benefit from not only competitive play but also a supportive network that fosters development in sport and life. The club’s emphasis on teamwork, skill, and enjoyment has helped it flourish over more than two decades.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
