The remote village of Sadam in South Sikkim has emerged as an adventure destination with the successful conclusion of the week-long ‘Go Sadam’ Festival, which was organised from November 19. The festival was aimed at promoting the region as a new hub for aero tourism and adventure tourism, and it attracted international participation, reflecting growing global interest in Sadam’s natural offerings.
A major highlight of the event was an international paragliding competition, which featured pilots from India, Malaysia, Germany, Spain and Nepal. The competition showcased Sadam’s favourable wind conditions and dramatic landscapes, with several participants describing the location as ideal for professional paragliding.
A Malaysian paragliding pilot praised the village’s natural wind conditions, calling them exceptional for flying and expressing hope that Sadam would be further developed as a professional paragliding site on the global circuit.
The festival also included a mountain biking competition, held on a specially created trail developed to position Sadam as a promising destination for biking enthusiasts. Local authorities stated that the village had over 60 homestays, and efforts were underway to further expand community-based tourism.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Tourism Department Chairman Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, who attended as the chief guest, said Sadam held significant potential for both aero and adventure tourism. He noted that the department was supporting the growth of homestay tourism to boost local livelihoods.
