Over in the Balearics, yellow warnings are in force in Majorca and Ibiza, with highs of 37C to 38C expected.

It comes after Spain has experienced scorching temperatures this week, although it won’t be as hot today as previous days.

Forecasting for Friday, Aemet said: “A sharp and almost universal drop in maximum temperatures is expected, except for coastal areas with little change, such as the Costa del Sol and northern Balearic Islands, where they will rise.

“However, they will exceed 34-36 degrees in parts of Andalusia, the southeast quadrant, northeast depressions, the Canary Islands, Ibiza, and Mallorca, and even 40 degrees in southeastern valleys.”
