October tourism figures show that all tourism in the Balearics in October fell by 2.9% compared with October 2024 and by seven per cent in Mallorca specifically. In terms of foreign tourism alone, the decreases were 1.7% and 5.3% respectively.
British and German decreases in Mallorca were 2.7% and 3.2%. There were 280,003 British tourists and 530,169 German tourists. In all, there were 1,329,227 tourists in Mallorca and 1,763,529 in the Balearics. The Spanish market registered one of the largest falls in Mallorca – down 22.7% to 107,305. Menorca was the big beneficiary from Spanish tourism; it was up by 45%. Only the French and Benelux markets recorded increases in Mallorca.
October was the third month this year when there was a decrease in Mallorca’s tourism. May and July were the other two, but the percentage drops were far lower than in October.
Of possible concern to the Balearic Government is that October’s performance does not support its hope of redistributing tourism away from the main summer months. But whether October can be said to mark a trend will have to wait until figures become available for subsequent months.
Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
