Storms batter Costa del Sol.

Flooding again in the Costa del Sol from another DANA weather phenomena. The heaviest began in the West of the region.

Casares and Estepona have been battered by hail storms leaving road surfaces extremely slippery as the latest DANA-strength weather system swept across the Costa del Sol causing havoc with traffic on the A7 and extremely treacherous conditions for those already trying to navigate to roads.

Off the coast of Estepona, waterspouts (sea tornadoes) have been reported, and more inland, some roads are blocked by fast-flowing flooding around the area of Casares. Such was the intensity of the first wave of the deluge, there were torrents flowing like rivers through the streets of Alhaurín el Grande in the Guardalhorce Valley, and simultaneously, on the opposite side of the Sierra de Mijas mountains, in Benalmadena.

The fire service of Benalmadena is warning not to risk crossing flooded areas on foot or by vehicle, and in case of your car being trapped in a flood, if the level of the water rises above the middle of the wheel, or continues to rise, to exit the vehicle. If the doors do not open, then attempt to exit through the windows.

Ironically, is was reported by numerous news sources on Thursday, February 27, that the Malaga province had suffered the driest February since records began.

Intense rains are predicted to continue into Sunday, and lighter rains into the beginning of the week and onto Wednesday.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
