After a scorching start to the week with temperatures soaring to 32°C on Monday, the Costa del Sol is getting ready for a welcome change as light to heavy rains move in, according to forecasts from Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The area around Mijas will see precipitation chances ramp up significantly from Monday onwards, potentially easing drought concerns in the Mediterranean region.

Monday kicks off the change with overcast skies and light rain in the morning, carrying a 65 per cent probability of showers and highs dropping to 25°C. While Tuesday and Wednesday offer a brief respite under mostly clear skies with minimal rain risk, the wet weather intensifies mid-week. Thursday brings cloudy conditions with light rain and a 75 per cent chance, followed by Friday’s near-certain downpours with an AEMET warning of 100 per cent probability with some partly cloudy intervals. Saturday continues the trend with light rain likely at 70 per cent odds and cooler highs around 23°C.

AEMET‘s outlook for the Costa del Sol indicates a broader pattern of instability along Andalusia’s coastline, where recent seasonal trends have included below-normal precipitation earlier in the year, making these rains a vital relief for reservoirs, agriculture and gardens. No severe storms or warnings are currently in place for the south coast, but residents in areas like Malaga and the Costa del Sol should prepare for possible disruptions to outdoor plans, with lows dipping to 16°C by week’s end.

Meteorologists say that while the rains are expected to be light to moderate, they could contribute much-needed moisture following a period of hazy, dry conditions. Broader forecasts for southern Spain highlight ongoing variability, with storms, floods and plenty of disruption. But it seems the Costa del Sol is avoiding all this for now.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
