This Monday December 8th is a public holiday in all regions of Spain because of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Typically, on public holidays, most big shops in Spain close, including supermarkets, but what about today?

Traditionally the long weekend and puente days of the Constitution on December 6th and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th are when many Spaniards begin their Christmas shopping, therefore some places will in fact stay open.
Usually, lots of smaller independent stores will close, while shopping malls will stay open. Some large chain supermarkets will also open today, although with reduced hours. It will also depend on the city or region.
El Corte Inglés will generally stay open in most major cities from 10am – 10pm.
Most fashion big clothing stores such as Zara, Mango, Primark or Lefties will also open today.

Madrid
Mercadona stores will be closed.
Carrefour, Lidl and Alcampo will generally operate regular opening hours.
Aldi will operate at reduced hours, depending on the store.
Catalonia
Most Mercadona supermarkets will be open from 9am to 3pm.
Lidl and Alcampo will also stay open and most stores will operate regular hours. As for Carrefour supermarkets, it will depend on their location. For example, some in shopping malls may stay open, while others will close completely.
Valencia
Mercadona and Consum supermarkets will be closed today, as will municipal markets.
Some Carrefour hypermarkets will open from 10am to 10pm.

Andalusia
Lidl, Aldi and Día and Alcampo supermarkets will all open, operating at regular hours until 9:30 pm.
Carrefour will also stay open, typically until 10pm.
Other more local supermarkets will have reduced opening hours, with many only staying open until 2:30 pm.
Mercadona will remain closed.
Balearic Islands
Most supermarkets and stores will stay closed today with the exception of El Corte Inglés on Jaime III and Mallorca Fashion Outlet.
Canary Islands
Alcampo, Carrefour, Lidl and El Corte Inglés will stay open during regular hours.
Shopping complexes and malls will also open, but all the shops inside may not.
Basque Country
Mercadona and Lidl will remain closed.
Some Eroski stores may open, but it depends on the location.
Carrefour will generally stay open although with reduced operating hours until 3pm.
El Corte Inglés and Aldi will likely both stay open during regular hours.
