One of the two men missing after being swept away by the current in Malaga has been found dead. The search is continuing for his friend.

The pair disappeared last night in the Malaga town of Alhaurín el Grande. The body of one of the men was found this afternoon several kilometres away from where the van in which they were travelling was found earlier today, with significant damage, in the Fahala River.

The alert was sounded this morning when it was reported that two residents of the municipality, aged 53 and 54, were missing. The last time they were seen was last night, when they were leaving a restaurant on their way to Malaga and got into the vehicle in the direction of Las Lomas. It is suspected that, given the flooding, they got out of the car to try to continue on foot.

The search operation continues to try to locate the other man. About 100 people are participating in the operation, including agents of the security forces and organised volunteers. It extends along the entire course of the Fahala River and also at its mouth, in the event that the water has displaced them several kilometres.

Members of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection volunteers, Provincial Firefighters Consortium (CPB) and other resources activated by the City Council are taking part.

As specified by the Subdelegation of the Central Government in Malaga, patrols, helicopters and the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) have been deployed. The canine units of the SOS Desaparecidos Association have also joined the device.

The council has confirmed that the search will continue to be active as long as necessary and has asked citizens to be prudent, recalling the danger of trying to cross rivers or streams during episodes of heavy rain.

In addition, a motorcyclist who was trying to cross a stream in the municipality of Íllora (Granada) has been dragged by the water this Sunday. The man was driving with two other motorcyclists along the Cañada stream, in the area of the Sierra de Parapanda. When crossing the river with his motorcycle, whose water level was higher than usual due to the storm, he was swept and is currently missing.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
