The contracts for the Costa Blanca chiringuitos won’t be ready until the summer
The tender for the Torrevieja chiringuitos was only published at the beginning of the month and the deadline for applications to manage the beach bars is next Monday, the 24th. This means there’s no way they’ll be ready to throw open their doors until the summer.
A total of 10 beach bars have been put out to tender. Each one corresponds to a single lot, and no more than one is permitted. The City Council’s goal is to allow a greater number of candidates to be awarded one of these establishments, similar to how it’s been done in Orihuela Costa.
But unlike the coast, Torrevieja has set a standard, common fee for each beach bar. Each bidder must offer at least €8,060 per year and beyond this, the highest bid will win out.
Since the contract is for the years 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028, the municipal coffers will receive a total of at least 322,000 euros in fees for the beach bars.
The contracts will be spread across three beaches. In La Mata, seven beach bars are up for grabs: one on Los Locos beach and two on Los Náufragos beach, both of which will need to be equipped with a 10-square-metre bathroom. At the end of every season, the structures will have to be taken down and stored.
This season actually began on March 15 and ends on October 31, but it’s clear that this year, it will be several weeks or even months late.
