From August 21 to 31, 2025, Mijas will welcome The Champions Burger, Spain’s number one national smash burger competition, making its debut in town.
The event hopes to attract over 100,000 visitors from all over Spain and promises a unique, family-friendly gastronomic experience centred on the art of the smash burger, a technique that creates a crispier, juicier, more flavourful burger by flattening the meat patty on the grill.
During the event’s official presentation, Mijas Mayor Ana Mata expressed its significance for the town. “This is a unique culinary event designed for families, where attendees can vote for the best burger,” she stated. Mata said the event was a prime opportunity to promote local establishments, joined by Councillor for Public Spaces Melisa Ceballos, who mentioned the success of last year’s smash burger event in Malaga City.
National prestige in Costa del Sol smash burgers
The Champions Burger Smash Edition has already drawn over 600,000 participants across cities like Mallorca, Castellón, Granada, Seville, and others. Mijas is the ninth stop on this gastronomic tour, showcasing 17 gourmet burger food trucks from across Spain. Local favourite Dak Burger, the 2024 Malaga smash champion, will defend its title, while renowned Málaga-based Gottan Grill, winner of Spain and Europe’s best burger in 2024, and Faakin Smash, led by YouTuber Joe Burger, will present non-competing creations. Additional food on offer includes fries from Ybarra Truck, fried chicken from Cheeck’s, artisanal ice cream from Sandgüix, and cheesecakes from Say Cheese.
Attendees will play a key role by voting for their favourite burgers via a QR code linked to their purchase, judging aspects like bread, meat, ingredients, presentation, and originality. The top three burgers in Mijas will advance toward the national final, where the best smash burger in
The competition also includes an element of sustainability, with dedicated recycling stations for reusable cups to minimise waste, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
