2025 has been a complicated year in Madrid as far as public holidays are concerned, since some of them, despite falling on a weekend, have not been moved to later days -except, in the case of Madrid, for dates such as the Almudena. This has made it difficult for there to be more long weekends spread over the calendar, but in 2026 the outlook is more optimistic with regard to rest.
Without going any further, the December long weekend -which in 2025 extends the weekend by only one day- will become a four-day long weekend in 2026: December 7 (Monday) will be a public holiday due to the transfer of the Spanish Constitution Day and December 8 (Tuesday) due to the Immaculate Conception.
As established in the regulations, the working calendar consists of fourteen holidays, of which twelve are regional and two are local. And as they have been configured for 2026, we will have a total of 8 long weekends throughout the year.
