L’Alfàs del Pi has completed a major renovation of the Camí Vell d’Altea, a strategic tourist route linking the Albir with surrounding towns. The project, fully funded by European NextGenerationEU funds under the Sustainable Tourism in Destinations strategy, aims to enhance mobility, safety, and sustainable transport in the area.
The €961,456 investment was presented by Mayor Vicente Arques, alongside councillors Dolores Albero, Mayte García, and Toni Such, together with local business representatives. The project introduces wide pavements, a new 860-metre cycle lane, improved pedestrian routes, modern LED street lighting, street furniture, and landscaping along the route. These upgrades improve the overall accessibility and connectivity between Benidorm, l’Alfàs, and Altea.
Mayor Arques emphasised the significance of the works for the municipality’s sustainable mobility goals, noting that the upgrade transforms a key road into a modern and safe access point for residents and visitors alike. Councillor Albero highlighted the value of European funds in enabling projects that support accessibility, innovation, and sustainability, while Urban Planning councillor Toni Such outlined the technical details, including enhanced pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure and energy-efficient lighting systems.
The renovation was completed in two phases. The first phase, costing €851,998, focused on mobility improvements, including the extension of cycle lanes and new pedestrian pathways. The second phase, with a budget of €109,457, delivered LED lighting with smart control systems, reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.
This project forms part of l’Alfàs del Pi’s broader commitment to sustainable urban mobility. With previous Sustainable Tourism in Destinations plans also funded by the EU, the municipality continues to invest in safer, more efficient, and accessible infrastructure. The Camí Vell d’Altea renovation strengthens regional connections, enhances the visitor experience, and sets a benchmark for sustainable urban development in the area.
