Overview
Settle down for breakfast — make sure to try tortilla, Spain’s version of an omelet — and check out of your hotel room. You’ll leave Málaga this morning for Granda, but not without a few stops along the way.
En route to Granada, just east and inland from Málaga, you can make a stop at the Sierra Nevada village of Lanjarón, known for two must-see sights. These include the town’s medicinal water springs and “Castillo de los Moros” museums, on the outskirts of the village. This 16th-century fortress-turned-museum was built atop Arab remains, and now offers enviable views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
From one village to another, your next stop will be Órgiva, the capital of the Alpujarra. Here, you’ll encounter whitewashed houses, balconies adorned with flowers, and steep streets that lead to the Ermina de San Sebastián, where you’ll enjoy yet another spectacular panorama.
From Órgiva, you’ll approach a trio of fascinating, historic, and oh-so scenic towns in Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira — all in the gorgeous region of the Poqueira Ravine.
After Capileira, you’ll conclude your village hopping tour with one final stop at your next home base: Granada. Upon arrival in this new city, check in to your hotel and enjoy the evening. After a day of village hopping, you’ll get to explore yet another new place — and it’s one that’s more sizable than any of the villages you’ve just encountered.

Highlights
Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira
In Pampaneira — a beautiful town of flowered balconies and famous carpet artistry — you’ll encounter the 16th-century parish church of Santa Cruz, which still maintains its Mudejar coffered ceiling. From there, you’ll head to Bubión, where the Alpujarreña Museum showcases the life and customs of historic inhabitants. Finally, you’ll wrap up this trio of historic villages with Capileira, near the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Next to the church of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, you’ll find flowers and traditional architecture with flat roofs.
Alpujarra
A mountainous region in Andalusia, Alpujarra encompasses the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains — and all the valleys in between. During your drive through these dramatic landscapes, you’ll stop at a series of quaint mountain villages that extend way above sea level, protruding with jaw-dropping landscapes, histories, and monuments. In each village, the rural, unbridled scenery contrasts yet complements the city life you’ve just experienced in Málaga.
