The boys, 11 and 13, died, Spanish officials said, while their father was rescued alive

Two British brothers tragically lost their lives after getting into difficulties while swimming off the coast of Spain.

The authorities confirmed the boys, aged 11 and 13, were swimming off Salou, Tarragona, when the tragedy unfolded. Both drowned, according to Spanish officials, while their father was rescued alive.

“Two brothers, of British nationality and aged 11 and 13, drowned this evening on the Llarga beach in Salou (Tarragona),” stated Catalonia’s Civil Protection. “The father of the minors, who had also entered the water, was rescued alive.”

Their father reportedly made a desperate attempt to save them and had to be rescued himself after nearly drowning. By the time emergency help arrived, both youngsters were in cardiac arrest.

The tragedy at the Costa Dorada resort took place yesterday evening, with the alert being raised just before 9pm. It is understood that the British family involved were staying at a nearby hotel, reports the Mirror.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
