A British tourist has tragically lost his life after falling from his bicycle during a trip in Spain. The 57-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly “passed out” while cycling on the N-340 road near the resort town of Almunecar in Granada province, a popular spot on the Costa Tropical known for its beach and nature tourism.
The sad incident happened around 12.30pm on Thursday, November 6. Despite the swift response of emergency services, attempts to revive the cyclist at the scene were unsuccessful and he was sadly pronounced dead.
It is believed that the man had been staying at a hotel in Nerja, a neighbouring province of Malaga, approximately 12 miles west of where the incident took place. Witnesses reported to emergency responders that the cyclist had fallen off his bike, with subsequent information suggesting the incident may have been related to a health issue he experienced while exercising.
The Civil Guard are currently awaiting autopsy results to guide their next steps, although there is no indication at this stage that the death is crime-related. Local reports indicate that the deceased was cycling with friends along Spain’s southern coastline at the time of the incident.
Efforts to resuscitate him reportedly lasted for about half an hour, with police utilising a defibrillator in their attempts to save his life, reports the Mirror.
Almunecar’s Security Councillor, Mari Carmen Martin Orce, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended her condolences to the deceased man’s friends and family.
The tragic incident occurred between a restaurant named Mateano Restaurant and a hotel known as Hotel California.
