A serious traffic accident took place on Saturday January 3 at 7:58 am on the N-332, at kilometre 174, in the stretch connecting the municipalities of Benissa and Calpe. The incident involved a side-on frontal collision between a car and a bus, causing alarm among local commuters during the busy morning rush.

Emergency services respond promptly

Firefighters from the Benissa station arrived at the scene immediately, with support from the Denia station as a preventive measure. According to the Provincial Fire Consortium, initial assessments confirmed that no passengers were trapped inside the vehicles. Authorities worked quickly to secure the area and prevent further risks.

Police and medical teams on site

The operation saw a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including the Civil Guard, Traffic Civil Guard, local police from Benissa and Calpe, as well as a Basic Life Support (BLS) unit. Road maintenance personnel were also deployed to clear debris and ensure the safety of other motorists.

Minor injuries reported

Several passengers on the bus, along with the car driver, sustained minor injuries. At the scene, a 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were treated for contusions. They were later transported by the BLS unit to Dénia Hospital for a more thorough medical assessment. Fortunately, no complex rescues were required.

Traffic disruption on a busy route

Traffic in the area was temporarily affected while emergency crews worked to clear the vehicles and debris from the road. The N-332 is a heavily trafficked route, connecting important towns along the Costa Blanca, which meant the disruption was noticeable for commuters travelling towards Calpe or Benissa.

A worrying pattern emerges

This incident follows another accident yesterday in Benissa, raising renewed concerns about road safety on this section of the N-332. Residents and local authorities have called for increased vigilance and potential improvements to reduce the risk of further collisions on this busy highway.

Authorities urge caution

Officials continue to remind drivers to exercise caution, particularly during peak hours, as even minor lapses in attention can result in serious accidents. The combination of dense traffic, high vehicle speeds, and narrow sections of the N-332 makes it a challenging route for both locals and visitors alike.
