2025 is drawing to a close; the Costa Blanca prepares for a lively and colourful New Year’s Eve, combining Spanish traditions with joyous celebrations across its coastal towns.
In Benidorm, the spotlight falls on Levante Beach for the annual grand party. Thousands gather from early evening for DJ sets, live entertainment, and giant screens broadcasting Madrid’s iconic “campanadas” (bell chimes). At midnight, revellers eat the traditional 12 lucky grapes, followed by a spectacular pyromusical fireworks display. Catering to its large British community, screens later connect to London’s Big Ben chimes at 1am, turning the promenade into an all-night beach fiesta.
Family activities or all-night revelling
Nearby towns offer slightly more toned-down partying but still noisy and community-focused fun. Denia hosts family activities and an orchestra-led party in Glorieta del País Valencià, with midnight grapes and dancing into the early hours.
Calpe centres celebrations around Plaza Mayor and the beachfront, featuring sea fireworks near the iconic Peñon de Ifach.
In Javea, a noon “children’s chimes” event precedes evening plaza gatherings, while Moraira keeps things upscale with seaside meals and beach parties.
Altea’s charming old town, with its blue-domed church, draws crowds for romantic street toasts and promenade fireworks.
Villajoyosa lights up its colourful historic centre with plaza parties, and San Juan de Alicante offers quieter local events, with many heading to nearby Alicante for bigger spectacles.
Across the region, the much-loved tradition of eating 12 grapes—one per chime—for good luck unites everyone, often paired with cava toasts.
Take it a step further
For those who have the stamina, a really traditional New Year’s celebration in Spain doesn’t really start on the streets until midnight and then goes on until the early hours, culminating at dawn with churros and chocolate and, for those physically capable, a dip in the Mediterranean.
Then, the Christmas season is still not over as the Three Kings celebrations follow on Monday, January 5! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
