Marbella Council has completed a series of urgent safety improvements to the Cristo del Amor bridge, a key infrastructure that carries thousands of vehicles and pedestrians every day between the neighbourhoods of Pilar Miraflores and Santa Marta.
Works, carried out by the Department of Public Works, included the replacement of the expansion joints at both ends of the structure, the installation of a new metal plate in place of the previous one, and the resurfacing of part of the roadway with fresh tarmac.
Safety guarantee
The council have stated, “This work was essential to guarantee the safety of an infrastructure that thousands of vehicles and pedestrians use daily.” They also announced that further improvements are already in the pipeline. In the coming weeks and months, the iconic bridge will receive a major aesthetic upgrade with the installation of decorative ornamental lighting. ” Cristo del Amor is one of the most emblematic locations in Marbella and deserves to be properly highlighted,” López stated.
According to the Council, efforts were made throughout the project to minimise traffic disruption for residents and regular users of the bridge, which serves as the natural connection between the two busy neighbourhoods.
Creation of more parking spaces
In a separate but related development, the Council has temporarily closed the downhill access to Avenida Maíz Viñals from the well-known ‘Guardia Civil roundabout’ as part of ongoing works to create new parking spaces along that road. The intervention will continue on the southern section of the street once the current phase is completed.
Both the improvements to the Cristo del Amor bridge and the creation of new parking spaces represent a direct enhancement in the quality of life for residents in an area of intense daily activity. The Cristo del Amor bridge remains open to traffic following the completion of the safety works, with the forthcoming lighting installation expected to further improve both its appearance and nighttime visibility.
