Jazz heads on the Costa del Sol have a treat in store as the promising Diego Díaz Trío takes the stage to hail the new year and new season at Clarence Jazz Club on Saturday, January 3, getting the year off to a jazzy start.
Led by the remarkably talented 18-year-old pianist Diego Díaz, the trio is completed by bassist Magnus Bodzin (23) and a rotating drummer spot featuring collaborators such as Andreu Giró (24), Alejandro Marqués, or Silvano Olalla. All members are currently based in The Hague, Netherlands, where they study at the prestigious Royal Conservatory, perfecting their skills in one of Europe’s most prestigious jazz programmes.

Fresh off the independent release of their debut studio album, “First Impressions Matter!”, the trio is gaining attention for their fresh, joyful approach to jazz. As they explain, their primary goal is simply to enjoy making music with close friends and great musicians – a philosophy they believe translates into one of the most engaging performances for audiences. In an industry often criticised for its seriousness, the Diego Díaz Trío puts a lot of emphasis on fun in the creative process, resulting in high-spirited, listener-friendly jazz.
Jazz standards with a unique twist
The concert repertoire will combine rearranged jazz standards tailored to the trio’s unique sound with original compositions by leader Diego Díaz. Whether interpreting classics or premiering new works, the group infuses everything with their personal touch and a democratic spirit, where all members contribute ideas to the final arrangements.
