Benalmadena has been under almost constant roadworks for the last 2 years, holding up traffic, causing water and electricity cuts, and impacting economically on ground-floor businesses such as bars and restaurants.
The most affected areas have been Retamar, Juan Luis Peralta and the entire Gamonal area. While it might seem like a drop in the ocean, the businesses are about to receive some compensation – an amount up to €6,000.
The provisional list of beneficiaries for a €350,000 aid package has just been published, with 65 out of 84 applicants already approved for grants of up to €6,000 each to cover running costs hit by recent council improvement works.
The support package, the first of its kind in Benalmadena, is designed specifically to help owners who kept their doors open while streets were dug up around them. The money can be used for everyday expenses such as rent, utilities, wages and stock, providing immediate relief after months of disrupted trading.
The strong take-up (84 applications in just one month) shows some willingness on behalf of the Council and not just a PR stunt to curry favour with voters for the next local elections in 2027. Even some businesses that did not have diggers directly outside their premises have qualified, as long as they could prove the works impacted footfall or deliveries.
Applicants now have until December 5 to submit any appeals if they were initially excluded, after which the final list will be confirmed and payments processed without further delay.
For business owners in Benalmadena Pueblo, more good news is coming: a second identical round of funding will open shortly and be launched for businesses affected by the recent Santo Domingo area upgrades, again offering up to €6,000 per eligible company.
Business owners who applied can check their status immediately on the official transparency portal: Check it here.
With Christmas trading approaching, this cash injection could make a real difference to year-end finances and 2026 planning. If your business traded through the disruption in any of the affected zones, it’s worth verifying your application status today – the money is already allocated and ready to be paid out.
