Emma Stone continues to rack up Academy Awards nominations.
Stone, from Scottsdale, received a best actress nomination for “Bugonia.” It’s her sixth Oscar nomination. She has won twice, in 2017 for “La La Land” and in 2024 for “Poor Things.”
The other nominees for best actress are Jessie Buckley for “Hamnet,” Rose Byrne for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” Kate Hudson for “Song Sung Blue” and Renate Reinsve for “Sentimental Value.”
“Bugonia” continues Stone’s penchant for offbeat, even weird roles. It’s a somewhat unusual choice for an Oscar winner; often after a win, they play it safe. Not Stone, who hasn’t shied away from taking chances.
Who is the Oscar favorite for best actress?
Buckley is the heavy favorite to win the Oscar, but it’s no surprise that Stone got a nomination. The Academy clearly loves her, and the smart money said she would lose to Lily Gladstone for “Killers of the Flower Moon” in 2024, but Stone wound up winning.
Can she pull off another upset? It’s unlikley, but it’s also unwise to ever count Stone out.
