Planning Your Spain Honeymoon
According to Schiffino Kennedy, the best time to visit Spain is in the spring. “That said, if you are planning to visit Spain for the beaches, the best time is June to September when the water is warm enough to swim and the beach towns are in full swing,” she adds. However, the summer is also one of the most popular times to visit, which is why the spring or fall season is a good alternative.
While planning your honeymoon, you’ll learn that Spain is enormous. The country is divided into 17 regions each with a distinct character, culture, cuisine, and sometimes even language dialogue. “Spain’s rich history and culture, mild climate, and cities make it a great honeymoon destination to satisfy a variety of interests,” she says. “Like many European counties, Spain has a long history and its golden years took place during Romanticism. The most romantic regions are Galicia and Basque Country in the north; Andalusia in the south; and Catalonia in the East.”
Before you head to Spain, figure out how much you want to see and how many days you want to spend in each city. While train travel is very easy, it makes more sense to use high-speed trains to get between the big cities. On the other hand, Schiffino Kennedy advises self-driving through the country, which requires a longer trip, as there are many charming small towns and scenic stops all over the country.
Language: Spanish
Currency: Euro
When to Go: Anytime, but spring and the beginning of the summer have the best weather. For the beaches, the best time to go is June to September (but keep in mind that there may be many tourists during these peak-season months).
How to Get There: Both direct and connecting flights to Spain are available from most major U.S. airports.
How Much Time to Spend: Plan for 10 to 14 days to maximize your time in the country (and spend roughly three days in each location).
Transportation: Trains or domestic flights connect the cities within the country itself. Travelers can also rent a car and drive through the country. Major cities, like Barcelona and Madrid, have conventional metro networks.
Must-Pack: Swimsuits, sneakers, light jackets, dresses, and daytime chic wear. People in Spain tend to dress up more, so opt for fancier alternatives instead of your workout gear.

For a romantic day spent at sea, Schiffino Kennedy advises hiring a private sailboat or chartering a yacht. “Hire a private sailboat and sail on the Cantabrian Sea in the north of Spain and let your capital set up a picnic,” she says. “Or, charter a yacht in the Balearic Islands; Formentera is known for its beautiful crystal-clear waters, secluded beaches, and unspoiled nature.”

If you and your boo are an adventurous couple, why not try your hand at going up in a hot air balloon? Whether you’re in Spain’s cities or beachside towns, you’ll find tons of delicious food options. “The beach towns are known for their unbeatable seafood shacks called Chirginguitos where you can indulge in freshly grilled or fried seafood and amazing cocktails,” says Bethea. “If you’re honeymooning up north, you can enjoy some of the best gastronomy Spain has to offer in Bilbao or San Sebastian.” Opt to try the seafood, paella, and a wide variety of different tapas when you go out to eat.

Budgeting for a Spain Honeymoon
As with any honeymoon, a trip to Spain can vary, depending on where you stay, how you fly, and what activities you choose to do. Schiffino Kennedy advises budgeting around $10,000 for around ten days. “Spain is very affordable in comparison to other European countries,” she says.
However, if you plan to include luxe business class flights and splurge on activities and dining, you’ll need to spend a bit more. Those who want to save more could easily incorporate more affordable hotels and save on some of the activities.
