Marbella is preparing to welcome the big man himself, Santa Claus.
Marbella Town Hall has activated a special cleaning operation to ensure the city remains in tip-top condition throughout the Christmas season, as the city prepares for a significant increase in visitors and events.
The initiative, which involves more than 200 municipal staff, aims to manage the increased footfall and events expected during the holidays.
Pristine for peak festive days
Councillor Diego López highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive city image, stating that “the rise in events and the high number of residents and visitors makes it essential to reinforce our cleaning services.”
On peak days—8th, 24th, 25th, 31st December and 1st January—between 80 to 100 operatives will be on duty daily, supported by five street sweepers and three to four water-spraying lorries. These teas will be prioritising areas with heavy traffic where festive activities are taking place, ensuring the streets remain clean and welcoming.
Support from the sustainability teams
In addition, the Sustainability Unit, comprising 105 staff, will provide extra support, allowing for immediate responses to cleaning needs.
Meanwhile, the Parks and Gardens team will focus on green spaces, contributing to a comprehensive approach to city maintenance during the holidays.
Christmas market measures
Specific measures will also be taken around the Christmas Market, including additional waste bins and regular deep cleaning after events. The Avenida del Mar will be washed three times a week, with manual sweeping carried out twice daily to maintain cleanliness in one of the city’s busiest areas.
Call for cooperation
Councillor López appealed to the public to make proper use of bins and recycling containers, emphasising that “citizens’ cooperation is vital to enjoying a clean, cared-for, and respectful festive environment.”
By combining professional cleaning efforts with responsible public behaviour, Marbella aims to offer a welcoming and hygienic city centre throughout the festive period, enhancing the holiday experience for residents and tourists alike.
