ALICANTE Gastronómica Solidaria, a local non-profit organisation, will cook and distribute more than 9,000 meals during the holiday season for the vulnerable people of Costa Blanca in an act of solidarity and generosity. However, the sheer number of meals is not the only thing that makes the campaign special; the meals will be made by Michelin-starred chefs.

Professional chefs join in a solidarity project to feed the hungry in Alicante

Some of the Michelin-starred and Soles Repsol chefs participating in the event include Kiko Moya from L’Escaleta, Cristina Figueira from El Xato, Joaquín Baeza Rufete from Baeza & Rufete, Ferdinando Bernardi from Casa Bernardi, and Soles Repsol chefs Aurora Torres from Lula, Pablo Montoro from Espacio Montoro and Dani Frías from La Ereta. The prestigious pastry chef Paco Torreblanca is also participating.

The chefs have chosen typical dishes for the holiday season, with Christmas classics including a hearty homemade broth, roast lamb, stuffed turkey with apple and sweet potato sauce, and sweets from various towns and areas across Alicante, including turrón from Jijona, chocolate from Villajoyosa, and Alicante grape from Vinalopó.

During the holiday period, the team of world-renowned chefs and kindhearted volunteers has committed to preparing and serving 4,500 meals a week, along with the regular meals that are served during the holidays. The campaign will continue into New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and Three Kings’ Day, providing delicious and nutritious food to the vulnerable people of Alicante and nearby towns, and spreading Christmas cheer along with the mouthwatering Michelin meals.

A movement to help the underprivileged and vulnerable on the Costa Blanca

Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria is an association that came about during the COVID-19 global pandemic in order to provide food assistance to vulnerable people across the province of Alicante. It offers nutritious and hot meals to those who cannot cook at home or lack resources to get food.

The project operates in collaboration with hundreds of companies from the hospitality sector. Together with more than 5,000 volunteers from the hospitality and culinary sectors, the organisation has prepared and distributed more than 1,700,000 hot meals in solidarity in 46 municipalities of the Valencian Community in total. The organisation also notably took part in the aid effort for the victims of the infamous Valencia DANA floods.

Some of the collaborating non-profit organisations include Cruz Roja, ACOMAR, Comedor CASA (Convento de las Monjas de la Sangre), Fundación Conciénciate, Santísima Faz de San Blas, and others.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
