UK drivers need to request a Spanish disability licence for their car as the British one is not valid

<span style=ARCHIVED – Disabled parking rules in Spain: UK blue disability badges are not allowed” style=”margin: 5px 10px 5px 0px; float: left” width=”100%” />
People with reduced mobility in the UK are used to being able to park their cars in special handicapped parking spaces thanks to their Blue Badge, but they may have a nasty surprise when they come to Spain. Post-Brexit, Spain is one of several EU countries that do not recognise the UK vehicle Blue Badge for disability.

Since Great Britain split from the European Union, negotiations have been taking place with each European country about using UK Blue Badges and where they are formally recognised. Since September 2021, the gov.uk website has declared that UK disability parking badges are not recognised or valid anywhere in Spain.

Those wishing to park on disabled spots in Spain must be in possession of a Spanish disability badge, which can be obtained from the regional government website where you will be based in Spain.

However, these international guidelines are subject to change, so travellers to Spain and expats living in Spain are advised to check with the Spanish embassy or even the local authority where applicable.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
