BA Cityflyer will operate the new route twice a week from Summer 2026 giving Scotland a direct route to a Spanish region that’s known for its stunning beaches and incredible food scene
BA Cityflyer is launching a new seasonal route that will give Scottish travellers the opportunity to visit one of Spain’s most stunning coastal destinations directly from Glasgow Airport.
The carrier will run services to and from San Sebastián twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays from July 18 through to September 8, 2026. San Sebastián is known for its pristine beaches, notably the celebrated La Concha, alongside its exceptional gastronomic offerings, featuring more Michelin-starred establishments per head than virtually anywhere else in the world.
Holidaymakers can wander through the historic Old Town, taste genuine pintxos at local tapas establishments, and immerse themselves in the region’s distinctive Basque heritage. Combining sun-kissed shores, refined architecture, and vibrant cultural celebrations, San Sebastián represents an ideal summer getaway, reports Glasgow Live.
Ian Romanis, managing director of BA Cityflyer, said: “We’re delighted to be launching direct flights from Glasgow to San Sebastián, offering our Scottish customers easy access to this popular city. This new route will provide even greater options and flexibility for those planning summer holidays in 2026, and we are confident that it will be popular with our customers.”
La Concha is one of San Sebastian’s most popular beaches thanks to its proximity to the centre of town. A sandy stretch that surrounds a horseshoe-shaped bay, it has calm, shallow waters that are ideal for swimming on hot days. Within the bay lies a small island, Isla Santa Clara, which has minimal infrastructure, consisting only of a lighthouse, a bar, and a small beach. For a few euros, you can take a boat to the island and enjoy views of San Sebastian while you sit on the sand.
When visiting San Sebastian, it’s worth going to San Telmo Museum, which is a great place to learn about Basque culture, with architecture, art, and unique items from the region. Kids will love the town’s Aquarium, and you can take the Funicular Monte Igueldo, a mountainside railway which offers spectacular views across the bay.

One of the region’s most famous creations is Burnt Basque cheesecake, so make sure you enjoy a slice before you leave. In town, you’ll find plenty of places serving this crustless dessert, which is finished with a caramelised top, and one of the oldest is La Viña. Hidden down a side street, this rustic shop has been serving pinxtos and cheesecakes for over 40 years, and it’s worth trying to get a table in their small dining room in the evening to enjoy a variety of Basque tapas dishes.
Chris Tibbett, Aero Director at AGS Airports, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome BA Cityflyer’s new seasonal service from Glasgow to San Sebastián, launching in July 2026. This exciting addition to our summer schedule not only strengthens Glasgow Airport’s short-haul network but also offers our passengers more choice when planning their holidays. San Sebastián is a stunning destination, and this new route will provide a convenient and high-quality travel option for Scottish holidaymakers.”
