A NEW tourist activity will take visitors to Almeria on a journey along the Costa de Almeria, heading towards the scenic Cabo de Gata area. Organisers in the capital of Almeria are launching a special tourist boat with a promotional maritime route to attract more visitors to the vibrant coastline, with the goal of becoming operational in 2026.
A new tourist attraction along the Costa
The new tourist boat, which would begin in the port of the city of Almeria and take visitors east along the coastline, has a budget of around €400,000 and is being managed through the city’s Department of Tourism, Communications, and City Promotion by the Almeria City Council. The plan falls under the Large Cities Tourism Plan and is co-financed half and half by the Regional Government of Andalucia and the City Council.
Effort to showcase Almeria
The head of the technicians in the department, Joaquín Pérez de la Blanca, said the effort is a “considerable investment” and claims the finalised activity would “showcase the topography and location of Almeria from the sea.” Pérez de la Blanca, along with all those who are working on the project, firmly believes the tour will be an attractive option for visitors who want to explore Almeria, as well as give them a chance to participate in onboard activities.
The project is currently out to tender, with a specification that organisers are open to suggestions from companies to specify the type of boat, passenger capacity, and onboard services to be provided, including a restaurant service.
Tourist boat to be active off-season
Interestingly, the aim of the boat ride is actually for it to be active during the off-peak season, around springtime. The sea excursions will continue into the autumn of 2027. The boat tours will mainly head east, although a western route will be available as a complementary service. “The idea may be that, if the weather is bad, a concert could be held, for example, but everything will depend on the bids. We are open-minded and receptive to whatever they may propose to us,” said Pérez de la Blanca.
