Pego is preparing to welcome the festive season with the 2025 edition of its beloved Nit en Blanc, a vibrant evening that blends Christmas spirit, community life and local shopping. Taking place on Friday December 5, the event has become one of the town’s most anticipated December traditions, marking the official start of Christmas with an atmosphere that appeals not only to residents but also to expats and visitors exploring the Marina Alta.
Organised by the Department of Economic Promotion–Creama, the local Creama office and Pego’s Association of Traders and Professionals, with support from the Fiestas and Youth departments, this year’s edition promises an even richer programme.
Christmas lights to illuminate the town
The celebration will begin at 6.30pm in the Town Hall Square with the highly awaited Christmas lights switch-on, a moment that transforms Pego’s streets into a warm and festive setting.
According to Raül Tamarit, councillor for Economic Promotion and Creama, “Christmas lights add a special sense of warmth that encourages people to stroll through the town and enjoy their Christmas shopping.”
Local shops open late and festive window displays
Throughout the evening, local shops will open on extended hours, giving attendees the chance to discover local products and support small businesses. Many establishments will also take part in the traditional Christmas window-display competition, bringing extra colour and creativity to the town’s streets.
“The aim is to strengthen the bond between local businesses and the people of Pego,” Tamarit explained. “We want residents to think of Pego’s shops not only for Christmas shopping but all year round.”
Family workshops and festive activities
Once the lights are switched on, children will be able to join a lantern-making workshop organised by the Youth Department (Infojove) in collaboration with this year’s quintos.
Paula Orihuel, councillor for Fiestas and Youth, highlighted that the goal is “to help children enjoy the festive spirit alongside their families, and this workshop is a great way to do so.”
Evening celebration at the Casa de Cultura
From 8pm, the Casa de Cultura will host the awards ceremony for the best Christmas shop windows, followed by a festive raffle and a showcase of decorative and gastronomic ideas to inspire households preparing for the season ahead. Live music will be provided by local group Gluten Free, adding a lively touch to the night.
Tamarit emphasised that the event seeks to “create a space for connection and community spirit, while thanking customers and starting the Christmas season with optimism and joy.”
Why it matters to expats and visitors
For the international community living in or visiting Pego, the Nit en Blanc offers an ideal opportunity to experience authentic local culture in a welcoming and festive environment. The combination of illuminated streets, open shops, family-friendly workshops and live entertainment provides a warm introduction to Pego’s traditions, making it an appealing evening out for those wanting to feel part of the town’s community life.
With the holiday season beginning, the Nit en Blanc stands out as a charming and inclusive way to discover Pego’s spirit—one that expats and visitors often treasure as part of their Mediterranean lifestyle.
