In a heartwarming display of community spirit, engine grease and roaring engines, the Costa del Sol is readying up for a festive growl of motorcycle engines as bikers don Santa suits to collect toys for underprivileged children, with the objective that no little one wakes up empty-handed this Christmas.
Leading the charge is the Moto Club Komando Amimoto‘s 11th Annual Toy Run in Torremolinos on Saturday, December 13. Scores of riders, many clad in red suits and white beards over their leather gear, will gather at 11am in Plaza Blas Infante outside the Town Hall. Under the poignant slogan “No Child Without a Toy,” the convoy departs at noon, thundering through the streets to collect new, (non-violent) toys in partnership with Cruz Roja Torremolinos.
Tough bikers – warm hearts
What started in 2010 as a small gathering of motorcycle-loving friends has blossomed into a much loved tradition, now involving nearly 200 members who see their club as more than a hobby – it’s a family dedicated to giving back. “These tough-looking bikers have the softest hearts,” said one participant. “For many children facing hardship, this toy might be the brightest spot in their holiday.”
The event continues back at the plaza with live music and a charity bar until 3pm, where proceeds fund additional gifts. Donations can also be made via bank transfer to Banco Sabadell (ES68 0081 0255 1900 0180 7089).
The goodwill spreads along the coast. On Thursday, December 18, the Circle of Friends biker club from Fuengirola will ride the festive ride through the town’s streets – just listen for the roar and that distinctive two-stroke whiff as they collect toys. Later that evening from 6pm, Los Mentirosos bikers from Marbella will cruise Marbella and San Pedro, turning heads and opening hearts.
Get geared up to join the collection by buying something new for lesser privileged kids, and just listen out for the roar of a hundred motorcycles.
In a region known for sun and sea, these events remind us of the true spirit of Christmas: big-hearted strangers coming together to make sure every child feels the magic of the season.
