Spain will have 9 nationwide bank holidays and plenty of long weekends next year

As the end of the year approaches, one of the most anticipated announcements for people across Spain has arrived. The Official State Gazette (BOE) has now published the final work calendar for 2026, confirming the dates of national and regional public holidays.
Meanwhile, the Balearic Islands will move their regional holiday to Monday, March 2.
In total, Spain will have 14 public holidays in 2026. Twelve of these will be national and regional, while two more will be local dates set by individual councils.
Regions observing Holy Thursday as a public holiday will enjoy a four-day Easter weekend. In some areas, the break will be even longer. The Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community will add Easter Monday on April 6, creating a five-day Easter holiday.
Those hoping to make the most of the start of the year can also extend their New Year celebrations, as Epiphany on January 6 falls on a Tuesday, giving many workers the chance to take a long weekend to ease into 2026.
