Mijas flooding. Mind the roads.

Dear sun worshippers, it’s time to bid a fond farewell to the glorious blue skies this Sunday, as we are likely to wake up to stormy skies throughout the Costa del Sol and plentiful rain – so get the washing in.

Saturday was a classic Costa del Sol winter day, which reached 18ºC in parts and lows not dipping below a very civilised 13°C, perfect for a late-autumn stroll along the promenade or one final al fresco lunch without needing a jacket. All the while, however, that slight wind was bringing a good reason to have a lie-in in bed in the morning.

Come Sunday, November 30, Mother Nature is changing everything with wind, rain and probably thunder and lightning in parts. AEMET has placed a yellow warning on the Costa del Sol from 6am to 2pm, meaning we’re in for a bit of a drenching. Expect very cloudy skies and rain that starts steady and could turn feisty, with bursts up to 15 mm in an hour and the odd rumble of thunder for dramatic effect.

Wake-up temperature is around 11°C (52°F), so the duvet might win the first round. The heaviest stuff should ease after lunch, giving way to patchy showers and, if we’re lucky, a few cheeky sunny intervals in the late afternoon, which might affect restaurant terrace lunches.

Looking further ahead, temperatures plan to stay remarkably well-behaved through on Monday with patchy cloud, but keep Tuesday, December 2, in mind, and another round of heavy rain is circling back for an encore later in the afternoon, likely lingering into Friday morning.

Don’t forget the umbrella, put your winter coats on, watch where you have booked for lunch, and don’t bother handing the washing out to dry. According to the state meteorological folk at AEMET, we are in for a wet Sunday.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
