More than a hundred gymnasts took part this Sunday in the traditional Christmas Gala of the Almuñécar Municipal School of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Club Gymcosta, held at the Antonio Marina Municipal Sports Hall. The annual event, a highlight of the local sporting calendar, marked the end of the school’s sporting year and brought together young athletes from across the region.

Young Talent on Display

The exhibition, organised by the Almuñécar Municipal School in collaboration with the Town Hall’s Sports Department, showcased girls aged three to fourteen from Almuñécar, La Herradura, Vélez de Benaudalla, Molvízar, and Motril.

Participants ranged from beginners in the “promises” category to highly trained federated gymnasts. All gymnasts performed choreographed routines that reflected months of hard work, discipline and dedication. Families filled the stands to cheer on the young athletes, creating a warm and festive atmosphere throughout the event.

Celebrating Achievement

Luis Aragón, Almuñécar’s Sports Councillor, praised the gymnasts for their dedication and achievements over the past year. He also thanked the school’s instructors for their tireless work in guiding and supporting the girls.

In a fun, festive touch, each gymnast was presented with a “sweet medal”, a small treat made of sweets, and joined them in welcoming Santa Claus, who concluded the event on a festive note, much to the audiences delight.

Zuzana Hanzlová, the school’s coordinator, highlighted that the main aim of the gala is to allow parents and families to see firsthand the progress their children have made before the Christmas holidays. She also noted that the event serves as an inspiring introduction for other young girls who may wish to take up rhythmic gymnastics in the future.

The gala not only celebrated the technical achievements and artistic development of the gymnasts but also fostered a sense of community, teamwork, and holiday spirit. With routines ranging from graceful balances to dynamic leaps and intricate apparatus handling, the performances reflected both the dedication of the athletes and the quality of coaching provided by the school.

For many families, the event was a heartwarming end to the year and a reminder of the joy and excitement that sport can bring to young participants.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
