Hirving Lozano may be on the verge of a second stint in European soccer. After being left out of San Diego FC’s plans in MLS, the future of “Chucky” could lie in Spain.
A source has revealed to AS México that initial talks have already begun between Grupo Pachuca and San Diego FC. The plan is to bring Lozano to the Pachuca-owned Real Oviedo, currently managed by Guillermo Almada, in Spain’s top division.
Pachuca’s intervention could be a win-win for all parties. Lozano would return to European soccer, the Mexican national team would have one of its key figures competing in one of the world’s premier leagues, and San Diego would find a landing spot for a player they no longer want.
Lozano salary a potential stumbling block
However, for the deal to go through, everyone will need to compromise. The biggest hurdle is Lozano’s high salary. The player will have to lower his financial demands, while the MLS club must also show flexibility to facilitate his exit, as Lozano remains under contract until December 2028.

Oviedo’s reality check
While Lozano’s move would put him back in one of the best leagues in the world, the reality at Oviedo is far from rosy. The club is fighting to avoid relegation and currently sits at the bottom of the table with just 13 points – two wins, seven draws, and 10 losses.
Their return to La Liga has been turbulent, marked by instability on the bench. The season began under Veljko Paunović, then Luis Carrión took over, and now Almada is at the helm.
