Runners will gather in Torremolinos, Andalucía, Spain, on Sunday 1 February 2026 for the XXXVI Media Maratón Internacional de Torremolinos, one of the most established half marathon events on the Costa del Sol.
Organised by the local sports authority and homologated by the Federación Andaluza de Atletismo, the race attracts thousands of participants each year, including a strong international field. Its early-season date and mild winter climate make it a popular choice for both elite athletes and amateur runners.
Race start, route and distance
The half marathon will begin at 9.30am sharp from Calle de la Cruz, next to the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre. From there, runners will follow a certified 21,097-metre course through the heart of the town, combining urban streets with long stretches along the coastal promenade. The relatively flat and fast layout offers scenic sea views while remaining accessible to runners of varying abilities.
Time limits, controls and safety measures
A maximum time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes has been set to complete the course. In order to guarantee safety and minimise disruption to residents, runners who fall behind the established pace controls at various kilometre points may be withdrawn from the race. Medical teams and race officials will be positioned throughout the route to assist participants when required.
Refreshments, prizes and runner benefits
Refreshment stations will be distributed along the course, providing water, fruit and isotonic drinks. In each category, the top three finishers will receive trophies and cash prizes of €250, €150 and €100 respectively. The first ten men and women to finish will also secure free entry to the 2027 edition.
Saturday 5km Popular Race
Before the half marathon, the weekend kicks off on Saturday 31 January 2026 with the Carrera Popular 5K de la Media Maratón Torremolinos, a separate 5-kilometre event that starts at 10.00am from the Parking area near the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso.
Open to runners of all abilities, this race is ideal for those new to competitive running or anyone seeking a fast, accessible distance ahead of the main half marathon. Distances adapted for children and diversity categories are included, making it a family-friendly fixture with medals and a finisher T-shirt or medal for those who complete the course. There is a maximum time limit (around 45–50 minutes) to finish, with refreshments at the finish line.
Spectators and local support
Registration for the Torremolinos Half Marathon remains open until January 29th, with fees costing €20.
However, if you don’t fancy spending your Sunday morning running the race, you can still get involved by supporting the event. Spectators cheering from the sidelines plays a key role in creating a lively atmosphere, helping runners push through to the finish line and achieve their personal sporting goals.
