TORREVIEJA has officially presented the strategy it will showcase at FITUR 2026, the largest international tourism fair in the world, to be held from January 21 to January 25 in Spain’s shining capital of Madrid. The strategy includes a reinforcement of Torrevieja’s tourism promotion, from its laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle, its reputation as a Costa Blanca music hub, and its plans for a transformation of its urban landscape.

The town’s way of life and plans for the bright future of tourism

Officials representing Torrevieja have announced planned activities for the fair, which it will hold inside the Costa Blanca and Central Plaza of Tourism of the Community of Valencia booth, in Pavilion 7. One of the biggest presentations Torrevieja has in store is the “Torrevieja, It’s a Way of Life,” audiovisual campaign, with details on how to live like a true Torrevieja local, touching on all aspects of life including wellbeing, nature, gastronomy, outdoor life, and tourism attractions. The presentation will put a special emphasis on international and European markets.

Torrevieja’s programme for FITUR 2026 will also include the presentation of the video, “Torrevieja, the City We are Building.” The video will showcase an overview of projects that will redefine the municipality, including the renovation of the port of Torrevieja, the enhancement of the Salt Flats, the protection of the environment of the La Mata Lagoons Natural Park, the revitalisation of the Sport City, and the New University Headquarters in the heart of town.

Music and festivals, Torrevieja’s greatest appeal for tourists

The town is known as one of Costa Blanca’s places to be when it comes to music events and festivals, and the FITUR 2026 presentation will take full advantage of Torrevieja’s shining reputation by highlighting some of the long-awaited events on its musical calendar. Some of the big-name festivals locals and visitors are most excited for include Low Festival, the first edition of BIGSOUND Torrevieja, and the next edition of SHINE Torrevieja, aiming to strengthen the position of the town as a live music titan.

Gastronomy and sports, some of Torrevieja’s strengths

Sports tourism and gastronomy also take centre stage in the strategy. Spaces in Torrevieja’s Sport City, like the María Jesús Viuda Pavilion and the padel courts will be given a planned calendar for national and international events in 2026. Important Torrevieja gastronomic events to be presented at FITUR include a showcooking demonstration “Cuttlefish Sangochao,” presented by the chef Marco Jacks, and a presentation of a recipe book, “Torrevieja: All the Flavour of the Mediterranean.”

The Drag Queen Gala and Carnaval: Celebrating diversity and dazzling performances on the Costa Blanca

As a treat, the Torrevieja Town Council will also highlight its plans for the 17th edition of the Drag Queen Gala, showcasing the municipality’s diversity, culture, and over-the-top festivities.

As a parallel activity, the town is gearing up for its famous Carnaval de Torrevieja 2026, a massive event that starts on Friday, January 30. The Carnaval will include parades, colourful costumes, blowout celebrations, music, dancing, and merriment for several weeks in the municipality, further emblazoning Torrevieja as a cultural, traditional, and social hotspot on the Costa Blanca.

A special surprise for Madrid locals

For the FITUR 2026 event, Torrevieja has prepared a special Carnaval celebration on Saturday, January 24 at 5:00pm, a grand parade that will travel through some of Madrid’s most emblematic spaces, from the central Plaza of Callao, to the Puerta del Sol and the Royal Theatre. This sneak peek of what’s to come in Torrevieja will showcase the cultural strength of the municipality, for Madrid locals and foreigners to enjoy and take part in.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
