The Region of Murcia is enjoying steady growth in its tourism sector, with 285 new businesses registered by the end of 2024.

This marks an increase from the previous year, with 38 more tourism-related businesses joining the industry compared to 2023. The rise reflects a growing interest in Murcia as a travel destination, known for its sunny weather, beautiful coastline, and cultural heritage.

A diverse range of new businesses

The 285 new entries span various types of tourism services, showcasing the region’s appeal to different kinds of visitors. Among the new registrations are:

  • 32 hotel accommodations for traditional stays
  • 7 tourist hostels providing budget-friendly options
  • 69 rural lodgings for countryside retreats
  • 137 tourist apartments catering to independent travelers
  • 9 campsites for nature enthusiasts
  • 8 motorhome areas to accommodate road-trippers
  • 23 active tourism companies specializing in adventure experiences

These additions underline Murcia’s expanding tourism offering, from family holidays and beach getaways to more adventurous pursuits like hiking and water sports.

Ensuring regulation and quality

To support the industry’s growth, the Institute of Tourism (Itrem) has been working to ensure businesses comply with regional tourism laws. In 2024, Itrem conducted 512 inspections to check compliance with licensing and quality standards.

One of the challenges has been tackling unlicensed accommodations listed on digital platforms. A total of 638 unregistered properties were found operating without the required legal documentation. Itrem has taken action to have these listings removed and is pursuing further steps against property owners who do not meet regulatory standards.

A well-regulated and attractive destination

The combined efforts of businesses and regulatory bodies are strengthening Murcia’s reputation as a dynamic and well-managed tourism destination. Continued investment in a diverse and compliant tourism sector enhances visitor experiences and supports the local economy. Murcia’s growing popularity benefits residents and tourists alike, creating opportunities for jobs, cultural exchange, and sustainable travel.

Spain is one of my favourite places to visit. The weather, the food, people and way of life make it a great place to visit.
